Evanescence’s Amy Lee Names the Video Game That Inspired Her Lone Tattoo
Evanescence’s Amy Lee has shared that one video game in particular has sparked such fandom for her that she was inspired to get a tattoo.
Lee made the revelation in a promotional video for Netflix tied to the release of the Devil May Cry animated series for which Evanescence contributed the recently released single, “Afterlife.”
What Is Amy Lee’s Favorite Video Game Franchise?
Within the shared discussion, Lee was asked if she was a gamer. It was then that she shared her longtime passion for the Legend of Zelda gaming series.
“I am a huge Legend of Zelda fan, for life,” said the singer. “Ocarina of Time was like my first RPG experience.”
She confesses, “I still play it from time to time to calm my heart down and put me to sleep. Throughout my life, as they’ve gone into Breath of The Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. There’s just been this ongoing life journey with me and my family and The Legend of Zelda.”
As she chuckles about her love of the game, she suddenly recalls that she has gotten one tattoo and it’s the “life hearts” that are found on her wrist that she proudly displays.

Making the New Track for Devil May Cry was a Joy
Amy Lee, the renowned vocalist of Evanescence, has long held a deep affection for video games, particularly The Legend of Zelda series. Growing up in the 1980s, she experienced the evolution of gaming firsthand, starting with Atari titles like Pong and Toobin’. The introduction of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) into her household marked a pivotal moment, especially with the release of Super Mario Bros. 3. However, it was The Legend of Zelda series that truly captured her heart. Amy and her younger siblings became enamored with Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, followed by Majora’s Mask. Her passion for the franchise continued into recent years with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which she enjoyed alongside her ten-year-old son, integrating gaming into her daily relaxation routine.
Amy’s musical journey has also intertwined with the gaming world. UNEARTHED FOOTAGE SHOWS AMY LEE FROM EVANESCENCE’S POWERFUL VOICE AT JUST 17-YEARS-OLD
The rare video was filmed at Vino’s Bar in Little Rock, Arkansas back in 1999, and shows Amy Lee on vocals, former Evanescence bandmate Ben Moody on guitar, Stephanie Pierce on back up vocals, and an unnamed violinist.
The clip pre-dates any official Evanescence releases, with the band’s demo album ‘Origin’ coming out in 2000, followed by their debut studio album ‘Fallen’ in 2003. Some songs from those albums are performed in the clip, including ‘Imaginary’ and ‘Whisper’.
Amy Lee and co’s full one-hour-set is captured in the video, and while the sound and quality isn’t great – it’s pretty epic seeing Evanescence before they were what we know them as now.
John Furman, the uploader of the video, has even timestamped each individual song, so if you wanna skip to something in particular, you can. Check out the timestamps below, and have a watch of the 1999 video up top.
Evanescence To Release One New Song Before April 2020 Tour
Amy Lee has spoken to “Loudwire Nights” about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s 2011 self-titled effort.
“This has been something where we are all in there together for most of the time so far,” she said (hear audio below).
“We’re in there with [producer] Nick Raskulinecz right now, who we’ve worked with before and loved working with before. He produced our self-titled album, which is really our favorite album. He also mixed [EVANESCENCE’s recent cover of the FLEETWOOD MAC song] ‘The Chain’.
“We’ve been in there kind of working as a team,” she reiterated. “The songs came from all different places. They’re not all in the same vein.
“We’re working on four songs right now. Originally, we were gonna go in there and just do two. I just wanna kind of do a few songs at a time, keep writing, go in and do a few more, release ’em one by one. But once we opened the can of worms, it kept growing. ‘Oh, we can’t do this one and not do this one. We have to do four.’ So, it’s four. So we’re working double hard to get it all done with the time that we have. But it’s going really great.” [Full Article]
