Making the New Track for Devil May Cry was a Joy

Amy Lee, the renowned vocalist of Evanescence, has long held a deep affection for video games, particularly The Legend of Zelda series. Growing up in the 1980s, she experienced the evolution of gaming firsthand, starting with Atari titles like Pong and Toobin’. The introduction of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) into her household marked a pivotal moment, especially with the release of Super Mario Bros. 3. However, it was The Legend of Zelda series that truly captured her heart. Amy and her younger siblings became enamored with Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, followed by Majora’s Mask. Her passion for the franchise continued into recent years with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which she enjoyed alongside her ten-year-old son, integrating gaming into her daily relaxation routine.

Amy’s musical journey has also intertwined with the gaming world. She was honored to contribute to the Gears 5 soundtrack by recording a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” The project began with her involvement in the game’s trailer and expanded into a full-length version of the song, showcasing her enthusiasm for blending music with interactive entertainment.

In a recent collaboration, Amy recorded the track “Afterlife” for the Devil May Cry anime series on Netflix. This opportunity allowed her to delve into the series’ dark and intense themes, resonating with her musical style. Amy immersed herself in the project, dedicating nights to binge-watching the series to fully capture its essence in her music. She expressed immense satisfaction with how “Afterlife” was integrated into a particularly significant episode, feeling honored by the producers’ use of her song.

Through these endeavors, Amy Lee continues to bridge her musical talents with her gaming passions, enriching both realms with her distinctive artistry.

Amy Lee Confirms New Album Material for Evanescence

Amy Lee Confirms New Album Material for Evanescence

Big week for emos everywhere, as Evanescence’s Amy Lee has confirmed that a brand new single titled “Afterlife” and its accompanying lyric video will be released this Friday. That bit of news comes along with the reveal that she’s also working on some new material for an upcoming Evanescence album.

“Afterlife” is a new single co-written by Lee and composer Alex Seave. The track will feature in the new Netflix Japanese anime series based on the hit video game franchise Devil May Cry — joining Lee’s captivating vocal delivery with an enchanting otherworldly visual style.

In an interview with Audacy Music, Lee discussed more about this new release and how it came together and how it relates to new material for Evanescence.

“[We are] very excited to have new music. This is the first of many [new tracks]. We are working on a lot of songs right now for the new album, but this came up through Netflix, and we were just really excited to have an excuse to get in there right away.”

In 2023, Evanescence shared a remix/remaster of their critically acclaimed debut studio album, Fallen, in celebration of its 20th anniversary. It’s been four years since the music industry has heard a new full-length project from Evanescence, so this news surely comes with plenty excitement for fans.

Although new Evanescence material is officially on the cards, Lee urges that they “don’t have a date for you. We are just working. We got off the road in November or something, and we’ve been just creative.” [SOURCE]

Evanescence Delivers an Electrifying Performance at Centre Bell, Montreal

Last night, American Rock band Evanescence brought their signature sound to Montreal’s Centre Bell, delivering a powerful and dynamic set that left fans frenzied and seeped in nostalgia.

The band, currently on the Evanescence + Halestorm 2024 tour, performed a mix of fan favorites and deeper cuts, showcasing the range and intensity that has defined their career.

Evanescence, which means “disappearance” or “fading away” (from the word evanesce, which means “to disappear”), was decided upon by the band’s two founding members : former guitarist Ben Moody and Amy Lee, the band’s iconic frontwoman, who was her charming self throughout the evening, interacting with the audience and reminding them to stay true to themselves and not let anyone change who they are.

Her passionate messages resonated with the crowd, adding a personal touch to an already emotional night.

Preceeded by local band The Warning : 7:00– 7:30 PM and Halestorm : 8:00 – 9:00 pm, the headliners entered the stage with a setlist that included tracks such as “Artifact/The Turn,” “Broken Pieces Shine,” “Going Under,” and “Call Me When You’re Sober.”

Throughout the performance, Amy had several brilliant solo piano moments that highlighted her musical prowess. Her energy was infectious as she performed alongside her bandmates  (Tim McCord, Will Hunt, Troy McLawhorn and Emma Anzai), with each song building on the last to create a memorable concert experience.

Midway through the show, a video montage played on the big screen, recapping the band’s past 20 years of touring highlights, offering a nostalgic glimpse into Evanescence’s journey over the years.
