Amy Lee’s Journey Post-The Bitter Truth: A Resurgence of Creativity and Connection

Since the release of Evanescence’s fifth studio album, The Bitter Truth, in March 2021, lead vocalist Amy Lee has embarked on a dynamic journey marked by global tours, heartfelt collaborations, and exciting new projects.

The Bitter Truth Tour: A Global Endeavor

In November 2021, Evanescence kicked off The Bitter Truth Tour, which continued until October 2023. The tour began in Portland, Oregon, and concluded in Recife, Brazil, featuring 124 performances worldwide. Despite delays due to the pandemic, the band delivered memorable concerts across North America, Europe, and Latin America, including a concert in São Paulo attended by over 40,000 fans.

During the tour, there were joint performances with Lzzy Hale from Halestorm, Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation, and Sonny Sandoval from P.O.D. These performances highlighted Amy Lee’s ability to collaborate and showcased her versatile vocal talents.

Lineup Changes and New Collaborations

In May 2022, the band experienced a change in lineup. Guitarist Jen Majura left, and Tim McCord shifted from bass to guitar. Emma Anzai, from the band Sick Puppies, joined as the new bassist and backing vocalist. She immediately brought new energy to the band’s live shows.

A Personal Tribute Through Music

Amy Lee often infuses her music with personal emotions. During a 2025 interview, she discussed her only tattoo, which features three red pixelated hearts from the video game The Legend of Zelda. This tattoo is a tribute to her late brother, Robby, representing the love he took with him when he passed away. The depth of her emotions can be felt throughout The Bitter Truth album.

New Projects and the Path Forward

In March 2025, Evanescence returned with “Afterlife,” a powerful single featured in Netflix’s animated adaptation of Devil May Cry[4]. Amy Lee called it “the first of many” new songs, hinting at a new album in progress. The track blends symphonic rock with dark fantasy themes, staying true to Evanescence’s iconic sound while exploring new territory.
